Essential Equipment for Life‑Saving Missions
To carry out successful rescue operations, FCSAR depends on a broad range of specialized equipment. Over the years, the team has worked tirelessly to acquire and maintain mission‑critical gear including snowmobiles, snow bikes, a Sno‑Cat, trailers, a mobile command center, chainsaws, dive equipment, avalanche tools, winter gear, toboggans, rappelling equipment, lake boats, riverboats, and many other life‑saving resources.
Reliable Communication in the Field
Clear and dependable radio communication is the backbone of every FCSAR mission. Radios connect field teams with base camp and other first‑responder agencies, ensuring seamless coordination during high‑stakes operations. Team members rely on these systems to report locations, request equipment or medical support, share search progress, and organize rescue strategies.
To maintain this vital lifeline, FCSAR has invested heavily in communication technology, including handheld radios (400 and 700 MHz) and a network of stationary, mobile, and simplex repeaters. As technology evolves, the unit must continually update and replace equipment—an ongoing and costly responsibility.
