To successfully complete its rescue missions, the FCSAR requires a wide variety of equipment.  Over the years, the Unit has worked to purchase and maintain mission-essential equipment such as snowmobiles, snow bikes, a sno-cat, trailers, a mobile command center, chainsaws, dive equipment, avalanche gear, winter clothing, toboggans, repelling gear, lake boats, riverboats, and other life-saving equipment.

Radio communications are the number one tool used by FCSAR team members on rescue missions.  Reliable, clear, and clean radio transmissions are the key to communication and are the lifeline between the rescue team in the field, FCSAR members at base camp, and other first-responder organizations on a rescue mission. Radios are used to communicate position, equipment, and first aid needs, search progress, and coordination of the rescue efforts.  The FCSAR has a large investment in communication equipment including handheld radios (400 and 700 MHz) and stationary, mobile, and simplex repeaters. Technology is constantly changing and thus the FCSAR must frequently update its communications equipment which is an on-going and expensive necessity.

Donations are used to purchase new equipment, maintain current equipment, train and certify members in various search and rescue specialties, and pay monthly operating expenses. The Unit members spend many hours on fundraising projects to help support the Unit.
